What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of biocompatible titanium or ceramic that is firmly anchored into the jawbone. Once the implant has healed, the visible dental restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) is attached to it. Unlike a traditional dental bridge, healthy neighboring teeth do not need to be filed down — the implant replaces the missing tooth completely and independently.

When is an implant the right choice?

  • Single missing tooth — You want to preserve your healthy neighboring teeth.
  • Multiple missing teeth — Implant-supported bridges provide more stability than removable dentures.
  • Complete tooth loss — All-on-4 or All-on-6 restorations stabilize full dentures and prevent bone loss.
  • Poor denture fit — Implants can serve as retaining elements for existing full dentures (snap-on locators).

Implant, bridge, or denture — what is best for me?

The decision depends on several factors: bone volume, the condition of neighboring teeth, general health (especially diabetes, osteoporosis, smoking status), budget, and personal preference. With sufficient bone and healthy neighboring teeth, a single implant is usually the most durable solution — lifespans of 20 years or more are standard. If the jawbone is insufficient, bone grafting (sinus lift or GBR) can often create the foundation for an implant.

What speaks against an implant?

Relative contraindications include uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, bisphosphonate therapy (MRONJ risk), and acute periodontitis. During your consultation, we carefully evaluate your individual risk factors — in many cases, conditions can be optimized prior to implantation (smoking cessation, periodontitis treatment, metabolic control).

Materials: Titanium or ceramic?

Titanium implants are the proven gold standard for decades — biocompatible, excellent osseointegration, and very high long-term success rates. Ceramic implants (zirconia) are metal-free, aesthetically advantageous in visible areas, and an option for patients with titanium allergies. We will gladly advise you on both options.

Was kosten Zahnimplantate in München?
Ein Einzelimplantat kostet inklusive Krone zwischen 1.800€ und 3.500€. Die genauen Kosten hängen vom individuellen Fall ab.
How long does an implant take from the consultation to the crown?
For straightforward cases, we estimate 12–16 weeks including the healing phase. If bone grafting is necessary, the total time is extended to 4–6 months.
Are the costs covered by health insurance?
Public health insurances generally cover a fixed subsidy for the crown on the implant, but not the implant itself. Private patients usually receive reimbursement depending on their policy. Use our fixed subsidy calculator for an initial estimate.
Does the implant procedure hurt?
The implant procedure itself is painless under local anesthesia. Upon request, we offer twilight sleep (sedation). Mild swelling is normal after the procedure — most patients can return to work the next day.
How long does an implant last?
With good oral hygiene and regular prophylaxis, implants can last 20 years or longer — many last a lifetime.
How do I get to your practice in Bogenhausen?
Take the U4 to Arabellapark (5 min. walk) or bus 154/184 right outside the practice. Free parking is available right in front of the practice.
