Aligners Munich — Invisalign & ClearCorrect | Dr. Christina Dickel

Crooked teeth are not only an aesthetic problem, but can also affect dental health. Our aligner treatment in Munich offers a modern, virtually invisible solution for correcting misaligned teeth - even in adulthood. With transparent trays, we achieve your dream smile discreetly and comfortably.

Invisible Orthodontics in Munich — Invisalign & ClearCorrect with Dr. Dickel

Straight teeth without metal braces, brackets, or wires — aligners are the most modern and discreet form of orthodontic correction available. At our dental practice in München-Oberföhring, we offer two proven systems: as a certified Invisalign Provider and as a provider of ClearCorrect, we can recommend the individually right system for each patient — without brand bias, but based on your specific misalignment, your lifestyle, and your expectations.

All treatment planning at our practice is fully digital. With the iTero intraoral scanner, we capture a precise 3D impression of your teeth in just a few minutes — comfortably, without impression material, and immediately ready for analysis. Based on these scan data, we create a ClinCheck 3D treatment simulation together with you: before treatment even begins, you can see exactly how your teeth will move step by step into the correct position and what result to expect. This lets you make an informed decision — and together we can determine the optimal treatment plan.

Our practice is located in the heart of Bogenhausen/Oberföhring, easily accessible from across Munich's east and north. Dr. Christina Dickel and her team have extensive experience with aligner treatments — from simple front-tooth corrections to complex bite adjustments. We accompany you from the free initial consultation right through to final retention and beyond.

What sets us apart: we don't sell a system — we find the right system for you. Those who need Invisalign get Invisalign. Those who can be treated just as effectively with ClearCorrect — and save money in the process — get ClearCorrect. Honest, expert advice: that is our promise. Book your no-obligation consultation now.

Invisalign vs. ClearCorrect — Which System Is Right for You?

As a practice certified for Invisalign and as a provider of ClearCorrect, we can offer you something that most dental practices cannot: a genuine, unbiased system selection. Both systems are medically excellent, scientifically proven, and deliver outstanding results when correctly indicated. But they differ — and you should know how.

During the initial consultation, we analyse your misalignment, discuss your priorities, and recommend the system that suits you — not the one that gives us the higher margin. In many cases both systems are equally suitable; then the cost savings with ClearCorrect can be the deciding factor. For complex bite issues or extensive rotations, Invisalign is often the better choice.

Invisalign — Global Market Leader with Proven ClinCheck Technology

Invisalign from Align Technology is the most widely used aligner system in the world — with over 17 million patients treated and the largest clinical database of any system. The patented SmartTrack® material is a specially developed polyurethane copolymer that enables more uniform and precise force application than conventional plastics. The ClinCheck® software allows a millimetre-accurate 3D simulation of the entire treatment course — you see step by step exactly how your teeth will move. Invisalign covers the broadest indication range of any system, from express treatments for minor front-tooth corrections to complex bite situations. As a certified Invisalign Provider in Munich, we give you access to all Invisalign product lines.

ClearCorrect — The Straumann Alternative with Real Added Value

ClearCorrect is part of the renowned Straumann Group — one of the world's leading dental companies, headquartered in Switzerland. The system uses a BPA-free LD30 plastic and offers solid 3D treatment planning through the ClearCorrect practice portal. For mild to moderate misalignments — crowding, spacing, minor rotations — ClearCorrect delivers comparable results to Invisalign. For many patients, ClearCorrect is the smarter choice: the same discretion, the same wearing comfort, the same quality — at a potentially lower price. In our practice, ClearCorrect is not a compromise solution, but an equal option for the right indications.

Who Are Aligners Suitable For? — Indications and Limitations

Aligners are a fascinating technology — but they are not a cure-all for every dental misalignment. An honest assessment of suitability is the first step towards a successful outcome. Here is an overview of who benefits from aligner treatment and where the limitations lie.

Well suited — these misalignments respond excellently to aligners:

 • Crowding: Overlapping or displaced teeth, particularly in the front — one of the most common indications.
 • Spacing: Gaps caused by missing teeth, too-narrow teeth, or diastema (a gap between the upper front teeth).
 • Mild to moderate overbite: Upper front teeth that extend too far vertically over the lower teeth.
 • Mild underbite: Protrusion of the lower teeth when the discrepancy is not too large.
 • Rotations: Rotated teeth — front teeth in particular respond well to aligners; severe rotations (>45°) are more limited.
 • Relapse after orthodontic treatment: Teeth that have drifted back to their previous positions after an earlier course of treatment.
 • Adults and adolescents from approximately age 14: Aligners are particularly well suited to adult patients who want to avoid the appearance of metal braces.

Limited suitability or contraindication — when aligners are not the best choice:

 • Severe skeletal discrepancies: Large jaw-size differences that require orthognathic surgery.
 • Extreme rotations (>45°): Severely rotated back teeth are difficult to control with aligners.
 • Vertical problems: Open bite with a skeletal cause frequently requires fixed braces or surgical intervention.
 • Lack of compliance: Patients who do not wear their aligners for at least 22 hours per day will not achieve a good result. Aligners demand discipline and personal responsibility.
 • Children in the mixed dentition phase: While primary teeth are still present, the dentition is generally too unstable for aligners.

As part of the free initial consultation, we analyse your individual situation with the iTero 3D scanner and give you an honest assessment of whether — and which — aligner system is suitable for you. If a different approach is better suited to your misalignment, we will tell you — even if it means that aligner treatment is not the optimal solution.

Treatment Process — From 3D Scan to Your Perfect Smile

We value transparency: here is exactly what to expect from an aligner treatment at our practice — from the first consultation through to long-term retention. Total treatment duration ranges from 6 to 18 months, depending on complexity.

 1. Free initial consultation (30 min): We assess your starting situation, discuss your wishes and expectations, explain both systems (Invisalign and ClearCorrect), and give you an initial assessment of suitability and likely treatment duration. No hidden costs, no sales pressure.
 2. iTero 3D intraoral scan (15–20 min): Using the modern iTero intraoral scanner, we capture highly precise digital impressions of both jaws — without unpleasant impression material, in just a few minutes. The scan provides the 3D data used to manufacture your aligners.
 3. Digital treatment planning with ClinCheck (1–2 weeks): Based on the scan, our lab partner creates a detailed ClinCheck 3D simulation: you see how each individual tooth moves step by step and what the final result will look like. Only once you are satisfied with the planned outcome do we release the aligners for manufacture.
 4. Aligner fabrication (2–3 weeks): Your aligners are custom-made for you — each one precisely matches the planned tooth position for that treatment step. Depending on complexity, a treatment series comprises 10 to over 40 aligner pairs.
 5. Treatment start & handover (45 min): At the first fitting, we walk you through everything you need to know: how to insert and remove the aligners, cleaning, the change interval (typically every 7–14 days), wearing time (at least 22 hours per day), and what to do if problems arise. You take your first series of aligners home with you.
 6. Regular check-up appointments (every 6–8 weeks): We monitor treatment progress, confirm that teeth are moving as planned, and hand over the next aligner series. Where necessary, we adjust the treatment plan or add refinement aligners.
 7. Retention — the most important stage: After the active treatment phase, you will wear a fixed wire retainer (bonded to the inside of your front teeth) and/or a removable Essix retainer. Retention is not an optional extra — it is critical for keeping your teeth permanently in their new position. We explain exactly how long and how often to wear it.

Aligner Costs — What Factors Determine the Price?

The honest answer to the question of aligner costs is: it depends. The cost of aligner treatment is individual and depends on several factors that we can only specify after analysing your particular situation. That is why we work on the principle of "on request" — no list price that may not fit your situation, but a transparent cost estimate after the initial consultation.

These factors determine the cost of your aligner treatment:

 • Complexity of the misalignment: An express aligner for minor front-tooth corrections requires significantly fewer aligners than a comprehensive bite correction. The number of aligners directly affects laboratory costs.
 • Chosen system: Invisalign and ClearCorrect have different pricing structures. For comparable indications, ClearCorrect can be a more cost-effective option — we will advise you openly on this.
 • Treatment duration and refinements: Sometimes additional refinement aligners are needed after the main treatment to fully achieve the planned result. Certain refinements are included in the Invisalign package.
 • Retainers after treatment: A fixed retainer and/or Essix retainer are separate costs to factor in. Retention is not an optional extra — it protects your results permanently.
 • Accompanying measures: In some cases, attachments (small composite buttons bonded to teeth), interproximal reduction (gentle slimming of contact points), or preparatory scale-and-polish are required.

Does health insurance cover the costs? For adults, statutory health insurance (GKV) generally does not cover the cost of orthodontic treatment with aligners — exceptions exist for children and adolescents with an orthodontic indication rating (KIG) of 3–5. Private health insurance and supplemental dental insurance policies with an orthodontic add-on reimburse 50–100% of costs depending on the tariff. Please check your insurance policy or ask your provider.

Instalment payment: The cost of aligner treatment does not have to be paid all at once. We offer individual payment plan options — just ask us. A radiant smile should not be a question of budget.

Your next step: book a free initial consultation. After the iTero scan and analysis of your misalignment, you will receive a comprehensive, transparent cost estimate — with no obligation.

Results & Retention — How to Keep Your New Smile Permanently

Aligner treatment is not a quick fix — it is an investment in a permanently straight smile. We are honest with you: what you can realistically expect, what you cannot, and why the period after active treatment is just as important as the treatment itself.

Treatment duration and first results: The active treatment phase lasts 6 to 18 months depending on the misalignment. Express treatments for minor front-tooth corrections can be completed in 3 to 6 months. Most patients notice visible changes after just the first 4–8 weeks — particularly in the front-tooth area, as these teeth move faster. That is enormously motivating.

Why retention is critical: Teeth have a so-called "memory" — they tend to drift back towards their original position (relapse) if not permanently stabilised. This process is biologically inevitable and affects everyone, regardless of the aligner system used. The solution: retainers.

Your retainer options:

 • Fixed retainer (bonded retainer): A thin wire permanently bonded to the inside of your front teeth. Invisible, easy to maintain (cleaned with floss or superfloss), and very effective. Recommended for the lower front teeth, often for the upper as well.
 • Removable Essix retainer: A thin, clear tray — similar to an aligner, but passive. Typically worn daily for the first 6–12 months, then only at night. Ideal as a supplement to the fixed retainer, or as a stand-alone retention solution.

Our clear advice: wear your retainer consistently. The finest treatment means nothing if the result has disappeared a year later. At the final consultation, we will explain precisely which retainer is right for you and how to care for it.

Results achieved with aligners are permanent — provided retention is maintained. Many of our patients are genuinely amazed at how much a straight smile has transformed their confidence. That is what drives us.

Aligners vs. Fixed Braces — An Honest Comparison

Which method of tooth correction is better — aligners or classic fixed braces? The honest answer: it depends on your individual situation. Here is a balanced comparison to help you decide.

Criterion Aligners Fixed Braces
Aesthetics Nearly invisible — clear plastic Visible — brackets and wires
Comfort Smooth trays, no chafing Brackets can irritate cheeks and lips
Removable Yes — for eating, drinking, and brushing No — bonded in place for the entire treatment duration
Oral hygiene Easy — normal brushing possible More demanding — cleaning around brackets and wires
Treatment duration 6–18 months (simpler cases: 3–6 months) 12–30+ months, depending on complexity
Indication range Mild to moderately complex (with limitations for very severe cases) Very broad — including severe misalignments and growing patients
Cost On request — tends to be higher than simple fixed braces On request — GKV subsidy available for children/KIG 3–5
Compliance requirement High — 22 hours per day of wear required Low — appliance stays in place continuously

Our conclusion: For most adult patients with mild to moderate misalignments who value discretion and comfort, aligners are the superior choice — provided compliance is given. For complex bite issues, skeletal discrepancies, or children and adolescents still growing, fixed braces are often the clinically stronger instrument. We advise you honestly as to which method suits your situation — and recommend nothing that doesn't make sense.

Common Concerns — Answers to Your Questions

Many patients arrive at the initial consultation with questions — and sometimes reservations. That is perfectly natural, and we take every question seriously. Here are the most common concerns and our honest answers:

"Does aligner treatment hurt?"

Pain in the true sense is rare with aligners. What most patients describe in the first 1–3 days after a tray change is a mild pressure sensation or some sensitivity — a sign that the teeth are moving, which is exactly what is supposed to happen. This feeling typically disappears quickly and becomes slightly milder with each new aligner. If you experience significant discomfort, please contact us.

"Can I speak normally with aligners?"

In the first 3–7 days, most people notice a slight change in their speech — a mild lisp or an "s" sound that feels different is completely normal. The brain and tongue adapt quickly to the trays. A small tip: read aloud to yourself — this accelerates the adjustment considerably. Almost all our patients report that after a week they notice no difference at all.

"Are the aligners visible?"

Under direct, strong light at close range, aligners can be seen — they are made of clear plastic, not air. In normal everyday situations, during conversations, at meetings, or in photos, however, they are practically undetectable. That is the decisive difference compared to brackets and wires. Our patients regularly report that colleagues or friends only noticed their treatment months later.

"What if I forget my aligners or leave them out longer?"

The minimum wear time of 22 hours per day is not a recommendation — it is a medical necessity. Patients who regularly wear their aligners for too short a time risk failing to achieve the planned result, and may need refinements (additional aligners). Occasional brief interruptions for eating or brushing are of course built in and are no problem. Think of the aligners as part of your daily routine — just like brushing your teeth.

"Am I too old for aligners?"

No. Aligners are suitable for adults of any age — provided the gums and jawbone are healthy. We treat patients in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. The only thing that matters is the condition of your teeth and gums — not your date of birth. In fact, adult patients are often the most motivated and disciplined aligner wearers, which has a positive impact on results.

Häufige Fragen

The cost of aligner treatment in Munich is individual and depends on the complexity of your misalignment, the chosen system (Invisalign or ClearCorrect), and the number of aligners required. An express treatment for minor front-tooth corrections costs significantly less than a comprehensive treatment with many aligners. At our practice, after a free initial consultation with an iTero scan, you receive a full, transparent cost estimate — with no obligation. As a rule of thumb: the more complex the misalignment, the more aligners, and the higher the cost.
The duration of aligner treatment depends on the complexity of your misalignment. Express treatments for minor front-tooth corrections take 3–6 months, moderate corrections 6–12 months, and more complex treatments up to 18 months or longer. With the iTero scanner and ClinCheck simulation we can give you an accurate prognosis in advance. Most patients notice first visible results after 4–8 weeks, which is enormously motivating throughout treatment.
Invisalign is the global market leader in aligners — with the patented SmartTrack® material, ClinCheck® software for detailed 3D simulations, and the broadest indication range. ClearCorrect is part of the Straumann Group and offers a high-quality alternative for mild to moderate misalignments, often at more favourable terms. As a certified Invisalign Provider and ClearCorrect provider, our practice can offer both systems and advise you honestly as to which is the better choice for your situation — without brand bias.
Aligners are made of clear plastic and are barely visible in everyday life — however, they are not literally invisible. Under very direct light at close range, the trays can be seen. In normal everyday situations, during conversations, at meetings, and in photos, aligners are practically undetectable. Many of our patients report that friends and colleagues only noticed their ongoing treatment months later. The difference compared to visible brackets and metal wires in terms of discretion is enormous.
For adults, statutory health insurance (GKV) generally does not cover the cost of aligner treatment. For children and adolescents with an orthodontic indication rating (KIG) of 3–5, a statutory contribution may apply. Private health insurance and supplemental dental insurance policies with an orthodontic add-on reimburse 50–100% of treatment costs depending on the tariff. We recommend checking your insurance policy in advance or contacting your provider directly. We are happy to prepare a detailed treatment and cost plan for you.
Yes, absolutely. Aligners are particularly well suited to adults — in fact, the majority of our aligner patients are adults. The prerequisite is healthy gums and sufficient bone support — age itself is no obstacle. We treat patients in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. Adult patients are often particularly motivated and disciplined about wearing their aligners, which has a positive impact on results.
The medically required minimum wear time is 22 hours per day — leaving you 2 hours daily for meals, brushing, and cleaning the aligners. Consistently falling below this wear time risks an incomplete treatment result and may require additional refinement aligners. Many patients wear their aligners overnight and remove them only to eat and brush — making the wear time easy to maintain. The 22-hour rule is not a recommendation — it is a medical necessity.
Aligners do not cause actual pain, but many patients describe a pressure sensation or mild sensitivity in the first 1–3 days after each tray change. This is a good sign — it means the teeth are moving. The pressure sensation diminishes with each new aligner, as tooth movements per step are controlled and gentle. If you experience significant discomfort, please contact us. Compared to fixed braces, which can cause irritation from brackets and wires, most patients find aligners considerably more comfortable.
Yes — for eating and drinking, simply remove the aligners. This is one of the greatest advantages: no dietary restrictions, no forbidden foods. After eating, brush your teeth and clean the aligners (rinse under lukewarm water), then put them back in. When it comes to drinks: plain water can be drunk with aligners in, but coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks should only be consumed without aligners — staining and sugar trapped under the tray are undesirable.
The iTero intraoral scanner is a modern device that captures highly precise digital 3D impressions of your teeth and jaws in just a few minutes — completely without impression material. A small handheld scanner is guided around your mouth and records thousands of measurement points, which are assembled into an accurate 3D model. This data is used to manufacture your aligners and create the ClinCheck treatment simulation. The scan is comfortable, fast, and very precise — significantly more pleasant than traditional impression trays.
At our practice, check-up appointments are typically every 6–8 weeks. At each appointment, we monitor treatment progress, verify that teeth are moving as planned, and hand over the next aligner series. With Invisalign, longer intervals may be possible for uncomplicated cases. Compared to fixed braces, check-up appointments are shorter and less frequent — a further advantage of aligner therapy.
Retention after the active treatment phase is just as important as the treatment itself. Without retainers, teeth drift back to their original positions — a biologically inevitable process. We generally recommend a fixed wire retainer (bonded to the inside of the front teeth) for permanent stabilisation, as well as a removable Essix retainer for the first 12 months. After that, wearing the retainer at night is sufficient. The retainers protect the result you have invested time and money in.
Neither aligners nor fixed braces are universally "better" — they have different strengths and indications. Aligners are more discreet, more comfortable, and oral hygiene is simpler. Fixed braces have a broader indication range, require no compliance in terms of wearing time, and are often clinically superior for severe misalignments and growing patients. For adults with mild to moderate misalignments who want discretion, aligners are frequently the better choice. We advise you honestly.
Yes, aligners are well suited to closing tooth gaps (spacing), including diastema — the gap between the upper front teeth. The aligners gradually move the adjacent teeth towards each other, closing the gap. It is important to wear a retainer after treatment to prevent the gap from reopening. For large gaps or missing teeth, aligners can be a first step to optimally prepare space for implants or other restorations such as ceramic inlays or veneers.
Online aligner providers promise lower prices through digital consultations via photo or postal impressions — without a personal dental examination. That may sound convenient, but it carries significant risks: without X-rays and a clinical examination, cavities, periodontitis, root problems, or unsuitable bite situations can be overlooked. Tooth movements without medical supervision can permanently damage the periodontium. The EU requires, for good reason, that aligner treatment takes place under dental supervision. At our practice you receive personal care, an iTero scan, ClinCheck planning, and regular check-ups — for safe, predictable, and durably excellent results.

How much do aligners cost at a dentist in Munich?
The cost of aligner treatment in Munich is individual and depends on the complexity of your misalignment, the chosen system (Invisalign or ClearCorrect), and the number of aligners required. An express treatment for minor front-tooth corrections costs significantly less than a comprehensive treatment with many aligners. At our practice, after a free initial consultation with an iTero scan, you receive a full, transparent cost estimate — with no obligation. As a rule of thumb: the more complex the misalignment, the more aligners, and the higher the cost.
How long does aligner treatment take?
The duration of aligner treatment depends on the complexity of your misalignment. Express treatments for minor front-tooth corrections take 3–6 months, moderate corrections 6–12 months, and more complex treatments up to 18 months or longer. With the iTero scanner and ClinCheck simulation we can give you an accurate prognosis in advance. Most patients notice first visible results after 4–8 weeks, which is enormously motivating throughout treatment.
What is the difference between Invisalign and ClearCorrect?
Invisalign is the global market leader in aligners — with the patented SmartTrack® material, ClinCheck® software for detailed 3D simulations, and the broadest indication range. ClearCorrect is part of the Straumann Group and offers a high-quality alternative for mild to moderate misalignments, often at more favourable terms. As a certified Invisalign Provider and ClearCorrect provider, our practice can offer both systems and advise you honestly as to which is the better choice for your situation — without brand bias.
Are aligners really invisible?
Aligners are made of clear plastic and are barely visible in everyday life — however, they are not literally invisible. Under very direct light at close range, the trays can be seen. In normal everyday situations, during conversations, at meetings, and in photos, aligners are practically undetectable. Many of our patients report that friends and colleagues only noticed their ongoing treatment months later. The difference compared to visible brackets and metal wires in terms of discretion is enormous.
Does health insurance cover the cost of aligners?
For adults, statutory health insurance (GKV) generally does not cover the cost of aligner treatment. For children and adolescents with an orthodontic indication rating (KIG) of 3–5, a statutory contribution may apply. Private health insurance and supplemental dental insurance policies with an orthodontic add-on reimburse 50–100% of treatment costs depending on the tariff. We recommend checking your insurance policy in advance or contacting your provider directly. We are happy to prepare a detailed treatment and cost plan for you.
Can I have aligners as an adult?
Yes, absolutely. Aligners are particularly well suited to adults — in fact, the majority of our aligner patients are adults. The prerequisite is healthy gums and sufficient bone support — age itself is no obstacle. We treat patients in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. Adult patients are often particularly motivated and disciplined about wearing their aligners, which has a positive impact on results.
How many hours a day do I need to wear aligners?
The medically required minimum wear time is 22 hours per day — leaving you 2 hours daily for meals, brushing, and cleaning the aligners. Consistently falling below this wear time risks an incomplete treatment result and may require additional refinement aligners. Many patients wear their aligners overnight and remove them only to eat and brush — making the wear time easy to maintain. The 22-hour rule is not a recommendation — it is a medical necessity.
Does aligner treatment hurt?
Aligners do not cause actual pain, but many patients describe a pressure sensation or mild sensitivity in the first 1–3 days after each tray change. This is a good sign — it means the teeth are moving. The pressure sensation diminishes with each new aligner, as tooth movements per step are controlled and gentle. If you experience significant discomfort, please contact us. Compared to fixed braces, which can cause irritation from brackets and wires, most patients find aligners considerably more comfortable.
Can I eat and drink normally with aligners?
Yes — for eating and drinking, simply remove the aligners. This is one of the greatest advantages: no dietary restrictions, no forbidden foods. After eating, brush your teeth and clean the aligners (rinse under lukewarm water), then put them back in. When it comes to drinks: plain water can be drunk with aligners in, but coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks should only be consumed without aligners — staining and sugar trapped under the tray are undesirable.
What is an iTero 3D scan?
The iTero intraoral scanner is a modern device that captures highly precise digital 3D impressions of your teeth and jaws in just a few minutes — completely without impression material. A small handheld scanner is guided around your mouth and records thousands of measurement points, which are assembled into an accurate 3D model. This data is used to manufacture your aligners and create the ClinCheck treatment simulation. The scan is comfortable, fast, and very precise — significantly more pleasant than traditional impression trays.
How often do I need to come in for check-ups during aligner treatment?
At our practice, check-up appointments are typically every 6–8 weeks. At each appointment, we monitor treatment progress, verify that teeth are moving as planned, and hand over the next aligner series. With Invisalign, longer intervals may be possible for uncomplicated cases. Compared to fixed braces, check-up appointments are shorter and less frequent — a further advantage of aligner therapy.
What happens after aligner treatment? (Retention)
Are aligners better than fixed braces?
Neither aligners nor fixed braces are universally "better" — they have different strengths and indications. Aligners are more discreet, more comfortable, and oral hygiene is simpler. Fixed braces have a broader indication range, require no compliance in terms of wearing time, and are often clinically superior for severe misalignments and growing patients. For adults with mild to moderate misalignments who want discretion, aligners are frequently the better choice. We advise you honestly.
Can aligners help with gaps between teeth?
Yes, aligners are well suited to closing tooth gaps (spacing), including diastema — the gap between the upper front teeth. The aligners gradually move the adjacent teeth towards each other, closing the gap. It is important to wear a retainer after treatment to prevent the gap from reopening. For large gaps or missing teeth, aligners can be a first step to optimally prepare space for implants or other restorations such as ceramic inlays or veneers.
What is the difference between aligners from a dentist and online aligners?
